Oldboys Spoon: We Hate Ben 4-2 We Hate Ben Oldboys

We Hate Ben managed to regain control of the Oldboys Spoon and returned some pride after their 6-0 thrashing in last year's game. The Shield winners, who had just come off the back of a historic ADL season managed to win the match 4-2 with an excellent second-half performance.

The game started with a guard of honour for WHB as Oldboys congratulated them on their Shield win, as many of the players in the Oldboys team were involved in the loss to Pier in the Shield back in 2010. The two teams then took part in a minutes applause for David Beckham's career.

Kick-off then started and the Oldboys looked the better team for most of the first-half but still still had to be on guard from the WHB counter. It was Oldboys however who drew first blood, with Ross Pope scoring at the far post. Both teams had chances but the score remained 1-0 to Oldboys at the break. After the break both teams tried to get a goal but it was WHB who scored an equaliser through Nathan Lang. WHB took the lead as the game became open and Jay Walker scored. Oldboys had a couple of chances to equalise but the game was put beyond doubt when both James Everett and Jordan Watkins scored to put WHB 4-1 ahead. A late penalty converted by Darrell Rees with the last kick of the game made the score more respectable, but Oldboys will feel they deserved more particularly after their first half performance.

Oldboys did however win the traditional end of game penalty shoot-out.

Lee Pemberton steps down as We Hate Ben Chairman

Today is a sad day for We Hate Ben as Chairman of six years Lee Pemberton, stepped down from the role in order to concentrate on his Chairman role at Birmingham-based club, The Wingjobs.

Pemberton 26, started his We Hate Ben career as player-manager and was also one of the founding members back in 2006. Starting his career as a Forward before moving back to full-back and now also starring as a centre-back for The Wingjobs, has been a major factor in the clubs success and growth over the last few years. The Wingjobs also feature some other ex-WHB players including Jason Dodsworth, Jack Thomas and Stuart Fleming.

"Pembo" as he is known by most, has been a constant presence at all major We Hate Ben events over the last six years, being an Oldboys regular and was a part of the side that travelled to Portugal last year and will be when the club returns this year.

His influence in the boardroom will be sorely missed but Pemberton will become a non-executive Life President and will hopefully continue to take part in all major events.

Pemberton has stated that James Naik would be his preferred choice to take over the role, but as of yet no announcement has been made regarding Naik's future. Naik currently holds the Director of Football position having left the clubs playing side in 2012.

All at the club would like to wish Lee Pemberton and The Wingjobs all the best in the future.
