A somewhat depleted We Hate Ben struggled to cope with the pace and passing of a energetic Sex Panthers side that pretty much dominated the contest from start to finish. However, there were plenty of positives to take from the defeat particually as the team was made up of several players making their first ever appearances.
The team adopted an experimental formation of 4-3-2-1 with the ever impressive Liam Weaver in goal and last season's top goalscorer Mike Jones putting in a monumental shift as a centre-back. Jones formed an excellent partnership with newboy Chris Webster who looked an excellent aquistion before being substituted at half-time. Another new face of Egbeyemi playing at right-back played very well at back with Joe Scott who came on in an early substitution for MacDonald who picked up yet another injury.
The midfield three of the returning player-boss James Naik, Jack Thomas and yet another new signing in Nick McSmith did reasonably well in difficult periods and Matt Sermon and Iain Giessler getting forward down the wings however failed to get off to a flyer as James Peate saw very little before his goal in the second half.
The match will give Naik food for thought as he looks to put out a side capable of beating Gigolo Warriors in their next preseason friendly on Monday.
