A third defeat in as many games for the SoccerJoos sees them still sitting in sixth but now they will have to start winning if they are to improve their position. Although We Hate Ben were strong favourites to lose this match they did in some periods of the first and a lot of the second half looked like they could get something from the match. The improvement on the performance after last weeks defeat to Sexual Harassment Pandas has improved things for the club however.
A new formation of 4-1-4-1 was used and for periods in the first-half WHB looked comfortable at the back and decent going forward against a team that haven't lost a game for three years. However, the quality at the disposal of Geltaidd eventually showed when a cross was hit on the bounce and somehow found its way into the net creeping away from the legs of Liam Weaver. A second goal followed when a good first save by Weaver was unfortunately parried across into the onrushing Geltaidd player. The game looked as though it may have been slipping away from WHB until on-form striker James Peate managed to slide onto a woodwork striking Adam Edgerley shot and pulled a goal back for the SoccerJoos. Alex MacDonald picked up an injury and the ever reliable Jack Thomas was selected to join the defence.
WHB looked to get something from the game until an excellent cross was headed past Weaver and a fourth goal found its way into the near post. Going into the break losing 4-1 was somewhat disappointing but it was clear why Geltaidd had not lost for so long. The second half saw WHB improve further and looked a lot more solid throughout the side. James Peate managed to find the net once again when the ball found him and space with enough time to turn and pick his place. James Naik changed to 4-3-3 to continue to push forward with Alastair England and Iain Giessler brought on to help James Peate. Although the extra attackers helped the offensive cause, WHB were caught napping when a badly cleared ball found its way to a Geltaidd player who dispatched the ball with vigour into the roof of the net. After that the match began to fizzle out and Geltaidd held on to win 5-2, putting them back to the summit of the league.
A slightly happier James Naik commented on his sides third straight defeat after the match: "I am pleased with the performance against a more reputable team and glad that we have again made strides forward. Although it was a shame that we ended up losing by three goals we have shown that on our we can day mix it up with the big boys. It is now upto us to beat El Diablos and win our other three matches to get that fourth place we have dreamed about for so long."
