We Hate Ben finally put in the performance they were capable of and smashed rivals Arcelona to keep their play-off dream alive. The win puts WHB into fifth place and the race for the play-offs looking open again. We Hate Ben began with a 4-4-2 formation and made several changes to the team that faced FC Beaver. Nathan Leach returned in goal while Dave Norbury partnered captain Chris Webster in at centre-back while player-manager Matt Largent moved across to left-back. In midfield, Jack Kelly joined Ian Hanmore-Farrugia in central midfield and Mark Healy made his first start for WHB. Turvill returned up front. WHB named a bench of seven players, with Ben Court in-line to make his first appearance for three years, and Adam Edgerley returned after a set-back in his rehabilitation.
WHB started well and looked to get Arcelona on the back foot, utilising the pace of Walker and R. Jones. WHB got the opening goal when R. Jones beat a man to put in a low cross for Walker to calmly finish. The two linked up well again when the an excellent pass from Kelly found the lively R. Jones who again had the pace to beat his man. His inside pass found Hanmore-Farrugia whose scuffed shot found Walker to again neatly finish to the goalkeepers right. WHB were now 2-0 up and cruising and L'argent came off for Matt Davies, Kelly moving to left-back. Arcelona could not find a way through and their lack of pace was telling as any ball over the top, down the wings or through the defence couldn't find a forward and each time the ball was cleared to safety or passed up the park. WHB made a couple more changes when R. Jones and Healy were substituted for Michael Jones and James Amos. The pair made a telling contribution before the break as WHB continued to dominate. Amos in midfield found Jason Dodsworth on the wing, who in turn found M. Jones. Jones played a delightful back heel to Dodsworth who crossed for Walker and with a superb touch and shot he smashed it into the top right corner for his hat trick. The first-half came to a close and WHB looked to be just warming up.
The second-half played out in a different manner, as many changes were made and Arcelona looked to find a way back into the match. While the first-half had been a masterclass for the attacking players and in particular Walker, the second-half saw Leach make several stunning saves to improve his record of clean sheets and stop Arcelona from attempting a comeback. Adam Grosvenor, Court, Edgerley and Dan Johnson all came on in the second-half, Court and Grosvenor not taking the opportunity to score their first club goals when gilt-edged chances thanks to Johnson's wing-play fell to them. Dodsworth added a fourth goal towards the end with a brilliant solo run from the left-wing, cutting in and beating the defender to place home a shot into the bottom-left corner. WHB had ended their run of defeats and could now end the season with a bang with two matches remaining against Sexual Harassment Pandas and Obi Wan Kenobi Nil.
Manager Matt L'argent was pleased with the result and will now look for more of the same against Pandas in tomorrows 5.30pm kick-off.
