We Hate Ben have announced that the vacant role of club captain has been given to winger Rhys Jones. Jones 19, made quite an impression last season playing alongside Manager Chris Webster, and he has made him captain for the season. Jones will become the club's youngest ever captain.
Webster said, "Rhys [Jones] is a quality footballer and a great lad to have in the dressing room. He will definately set a good example on the pitch and as long as he focuses on playing to his best he will be a great leader." Jones has recently had to deny speculation linking him with a move to Glengower, and his statement reitierating his desire to stay at the club seems to have been rewarded with the armband.
Jones said, "I am immensely proud to be made captain, yet I am also apprehensive. I know I have to improve my behaviour from the end of last season and lead by example."
He continued "I am pleased to be working more closely with Chris [Webster], particuarly in on the field matters, as off the field already I have been involved with bringing in players, having helped secure three signings and a group of trialists. I feel we already have a good understanding with each other and I resepct him both on an off the pitch. I am therefore very excited about being under him and aiding him in anyway I can."
Jones then spoke about his ambitions for the coming season, "I expect an immensely tough and yet very good season. I expect to finish at the very least in the top half, but I also want to do well in the cups. Although I admit as it's a transitional year, so will be tough, I believe we have the potential to do well this season."
