Manager Chris Webster is believed to be pleased with his summer transfer business as he readies his squad for the club's opening game on Wednesday. The first match is in the Aberystwyth Town Cup preliminary round against new ADL side Balls Deep FC, who they will also face in their league campaign.
Webster has seen a massive turnover of players this summer, with thirteen players departing and fourteen joining. Webster now feels he has a squad capable of some success this season, but knows the hard work is yet to start.
Webster said "There were definite gaps in the squad last season, and in some games we had problems, and this wasn't helped in the summer when several key players left the club. I knew I had a job on my hands to firstly get a squad together and then to make sure we had some extra quality to progress. Not only do I want to challenge for trophies this season, but I also wanted to build for the long-term. The players who joined last year now have a season under their belts and will have gained experience, which will help to complement the new players this year who haven't played in this league before. Those players will be the backbone of the side for the next couple of years, and it is important they feel at home here."
Webster continued "It is also important that we get off to a good start on Wednesday in the cup, as a cup run can only improve confidence and help us gel together quickly. They [Balls Deep] are a new side, but to underestimate them would be foolish. They will be looking to get off to a good start themselves and as we will be playing them again in the league as well we need to show them just what we are capable of."
