Summer Transfers: September Round-Up and Opinion

The Aberystwyth Digs League has confirmed that the 2009/10 league season will begin in November, leaving a month and a half for new signings. Manager Alex MacDonald has been busy so far in negotiations and the squad will begin to take shape in the next week or so.

MacDonald himself has been training in goal along with James Naik and trialist goalkeeper Nathan Leech. Nineteen year-old Leech will look to push the pair from between the sticks for the number-one jersey.

Joining them at the back with current players Darrell Rees, Chris Webster, Matt L'argent and long-term injury absentee Stuart Fleming, are probable converted full-backs Jack Thomas and Danny Shaw. Shaw recently stated his desire to play in that position.

MacDonald's summer target central defender Cei Whitehouse has agreed to join up on trial, and has started last week along with full-backs Adam Smith, Peter Oliver and Dave Norbury. Centre-backs Sam Holloway, Lewis Lloyd and Peter Thomas will start trials next week, along with full-backs Gareth Tucker and Owain Morris.

Dan Lyons is believed to have agreed to continue with the newly created Unatletico Madrid (formerly Gigolo Warriors).

The midfield will be bolstered by Josh Davies, who is close to agreeing a new contract ending speculation he was to join Sex Panthers. Released winger Joe Scott is in talks about earning a new contract, while Adam Edgerley, Nick McSmith, Matt Sermon, Ben Court and Matt Davies remain at the club, while Adam Roberts has rejoined.

Defensive midfielders Karl Dyer and Edward Jones have not been seen yet, but Dyer should begin next week. Rob and Tudur Jones, Jack Talbot and Matt Burt have not so far been spotted at the club, and it is believed they may have had their trials ended.

Along with Dan Lyons, Rhys Adamec and Dave Daniels have rejoined Unatletico Madrid, putting paid for the final time the annual speculation surrounding a possible move for Daniels.

On the wing joining Adam Roberts, Matt Sermon, Nick McSmith, in addition to Hywel Williams and Scott Thomas who can also play there should be Dave Reeves and Steven Herbert started last week. Tam Blake will not be joining however.

Up front along with James Peate, Toby Moss and Hywel Williams, Dave Turvill, former player Lee Mackin, and Chris Smart have all started trials. Chris Read and Steffan Davies should be available next week. There are also some other unnamed trialists who have been seen, and we should have some news on that shortly.
